Darkspore carried stories about a race called "The Crogenitors". This race has the ability to make mutations in living things by using the E-DNA. Inadvertently, Crogenitors create a creature whose power they could not control, Darkspore. Darkspore began to confuse the universe by creating other beings with powers that can control the E-DNA. Feeling responsible, one Crogenitors start building an army to conquer Darkspore and restore the balance of the universe.
As the games were RPG genre, Darkspore have gameplay like most RPG games available.
